About the Fund
About the Brays Island Stewardship Fund
Situated in the heart of the Lowcountry, in the upper reaches of the Port Royal Sound, with over 5500 acres of preserved and managed lands, Brays Island embodies a wealth of natural and cultural resources. The Stewardship Fund, through research and monitoring, seeks to provide Brays Island and other Lowcountry conservation organizations with sound science and educational initiatives to conserve this unique and diverse landscape
With the full support of the Brays Island Board of Directors, the Stewardship Fund was established in the summer of 2023. It provides a portal by which Brays Island Owners can submit donations towards research, monitoring, and restoration projects on and around Brays Island. The Stewardship Fund partners with local conservation organizations and universities researching our wildlife and natural environments, our cultural and archeological history, and water quality.
How to Support the Brays Island Stewardship Fund
The Stewardship Fund is closely intertwined with the Brays Island Community. It is entirely supported by generous donations from Brays Island Owners. All projects must be approved by the Brays Island Nature Committee, and subsequently by the Brays Island Board of Directors.
If you are a Brays Island Community Member and are interested in donating to the Brays Island Stewardship Fund, please follow this link or contact the accounting department for more information.
Apply for Project Funding
The Brays Island Stewardship Fund is proud to support constructive research in the upper Port Royal Sound Area. We partner with several local conservation organizations, universities, and state agencies. Projects are coordinated with the Brays Island Head Naturalist, presented to the Brays Island Nature Committee, and ultimately presented to the Brays Island Board of Directors for final approval. The top criteria for project approval is that each project must contribute to a greater understanding of natural environment or cultural history on Brays Island or within the Upper Port Royal Sound. For more information on previously supported projects, please visit the projects tab on our website.
If your organization is interested in conducting research on Brays Island, or seeking funding for a project on our outside Brays Island, please contact us to learn more about our project application process.
